1. Have students make an ABC book telling all about them. This would be a great beginning of the year activity, so that everyone can get to know a little more about each other.
2. Integrate science and art by having students make a volcano out of newspaper, cardboard, aluminum foil and a small medicine bottle. Then have them add dish detergent, food coloring, baking soda and vinegar to make the eruption.
3. Integrate math and art by having students use shapes to make a pattern to put together a caterpillar. Then have students put either five or ten dots on each shape and students can then use it to skip count by either fives or tens.
4. Integrate science with art by having students draw, paint or cut out clouds, sun, and rain drops to show the water cycle.
5. Integrate character education with art by having students make a figure of themselves from pipe cleaners and then have them bend it to show something they enjoy doing.
6. Integrate character education with art by having students make a poem about themselves, using the letters in their names. It will help boost their self-esteem.
7. Have students make a Picasso style sculpture using a knee high stocking and a metal hanger.
8. Teach students to recycle and be creative by having them make a pendant for a necklace from recycled materials.
9. Integrate social studies with art by having students create Indian habitats using mixed media.
10. Have students make a diorama using clay to make the animals and people be 3-D.
11. Teach students about complimentary colors by making a matching game.
12. Integrate reading and writing with art by reading "Go Away, Big Green Monster!" and then have them make their own monsters using a paper plate and a variety of other art materials. Then have students write a short story describing their monster.
13. Integrate math and art by having students use clear clipboards with velcro dots and see through colored shapes to make word problems to add and subtract, while learning about secondary colors.
14. Integrate reading and art by reading an animal book, such as "The Ladybug" by Eric Carle and then have students make their own animals by overlapping colored tissue paper.
15. Have students make a self-portrait using the collage technique and then have them share with the class.
