My Teaching Philosophy

It is my belief that teachers hold one of the most important jobs in the world. Kids are worth every moment of time teachers must take to prepare to teach. Without dedicated teachers, there would not be doctors, lawyers, scientists or engineers, among many other important careers needed in our world. I believe teachers should use a variety of teaching methods to keep the students’ interest. I agree with Max Thompson that teachers should use less worksheets and give children the opportunity to take what they know and use critical thinking skills to apply that knowledge with hands-on activities. Just as Barbara Coloroso believes, I believe that children should be taught how to think not what to think so that in adolescence they will have the ability to think for themselves. I agree with my first-placement teacher Peggy Smith, who believes teachers need to teach children to problem solve so that they have the skills to handle their own minor problems without teacher intervention. And most importantly I believe Lee Canter’s quote which says, “I have the right to teach and students have the right to learn.”
